Growing plants homework

Thank you to all the class and parents that have completed some homework related to the 'growing plants' topic. Each day, a few children are describing and sharing what they did with the rest of the class. We will display as much as we can in the classroom.

Here are the children who have shared their work already:

He bought lots of different fruit from the supermarket, then cut it all up and created a fruit salad by using the different fruits. The whole class enjoyed sharing the fruit salad.

One child created a Princess garden, and made a treehouse, sandpit, table, trees and flowers. She also added some princesses to enjoy the garden.

She planted some chilli seeds and some kale seeds. They have begun to grow as we could see shoots  coming out from the soil.

He looked at the different types of seeds for various plants. He has planted many of these seeds in his own garden and showed us some of the leaves from the plants, as they all look very different. He brought in 4 plants that have already begun to grow: mint, lettuce and 2 flowering plants.

He used his maths to estimate and measure different parts of his garden such as the grass, footpath, shed. He used his feet to measure the lengths and widths. He planted courgettes in his garden, and is watching them grow. Hope they get big enough to eat too!

He shared his scrapbook which was full of learning about plants. He had planted seeds and watched the plants grow.

He also added some descriptions of plant yoga ( different positions that we could put our bodies into). We tried 'how to be a tree'!!

She had visited the supermarket to choose then buy different fruits and vegetables. We watched some videos of her supermarket visit. She also practised finding coins for different amounts, and added different prices together.

He built a trough, then went to a shop to buy some soil and seeds. He planted the seeds in his homemade trough in the shape of his name, and recorded them growing through pictures. He then brought some of the plants in for the class to look after.

She planted some seeds such as lettuce, poppies, congested and some bulbs, then watched them grow. She shared pictures and pots of the plants growing including some cress seeds which she grew in an eggshell.

She grew some lettuce and talked about how she grew the plant. She had grown some potato plants from a potato, as well as lettuces, runner beans, beetroot, sweet corn, herbs, broccoli, cabbage, Kate, courgettes, leeks and pumpkins. She made a vegetable patch full of all these foods. Then used lots of maths to work out how long the rows of vegetables were and how many potatoes she might grow if she had 8 rows. Her scrapbook contained photos, drawings, maths and writing all about her plants, including what vegetables she used to make pasta sauce.

A lovely tomato plant which is just a baby at the moment. It was carefully potted out at home and has been watered and cared for which is why it looks so healthy.

A wonderful game called 'Ivy and Sunflowers'. You go up the sunflowers and slide down the ivy. There are also carefully drawn minibeasts like worms and butterflies and you can check what to do when you land on them as there are brilliant rules written on the back of the game. It looks great fun!

Some super work has been going on in the garden! A new cherry tree which is being watered and cared for, a lovely home for bees underneath a rose bush and lots of places for birds to eat and keep healthy. Well done!

A delicious looking garden pizza was made and topped with tasty treats from the garden. Chive flowers, borage, jack by the hedge and sorel was used to top the pizza before the tasting could commence! There was also a brilliant photo diary of some cornflower seeds being sown and cared for.

Some very healthy looking tomato plants that were grown and well cared for. One has a little green tomato on it and we look forward to seeing it grow and turn red. The bean that was planted in school is looking good too.

A delicious looking stir fry using lots of fresh vegetables. First, the vegetables were weighed and bought, then they were carefully prepared and finally cooked and eaten with chicken and noodles - yum!

A lovely fairy garden using bark, stones and flowers. It even had little fairies living there!

A lovely fresh salad was made using apples, carrots and lots of other delicious ingredients! Also, a cucumber plant was potted out and is being well cared for. The plant has already grown to 30cm tall.

A really super diary of the life of a lily plant from the garden centre to home. The flowers have blossomed and look really beautiful and we could see how that happened by reading the detailed diary. The plant also provided an idea for a story about a fairy that lived on the plant - great work!
