Making bread

As part of our summer topic, we have learnt about what a baker shop is and what it sells.

Last week, we had a visit from the daughter of a baker that used to have a shop in East Harling (near the current chemists) We found out all about her experiences living above a bakers shop including waking up and smelling the bread baking that her Dad had begun making at 4am each day, and helping to deliver loaves of bread to people in East Harling whilst on a bike.

We thought about what ingredients are in bread, and used the 'Little Red Hen' story to learn about the sequence of how bread is made.

We then looked at a bread recipe, and made our own bread dough. The children were brilliant at kneading the dough.

We watched as the yeast made the dough rise.

Then baked the bread.

The next day we all tried a piece of the bread we had weighed out, mixed and kneaded. The children loved it.
